Oldhammer Elf Heroes

Following on from the Elf cavalry posted the other day, here are the Elf heroes. I love these sculpts. Some were painted over 25 years ago but have had a recent refresh in the green colour scheme of the recently purchased and painted models. I'm pleased with how these have worked out. They all look good together, whether recently painted or 'refreshed' and that's what I was aiming for.

Oldhammer Elf Cavalry

It's only taken me 5 years to finish this unit of old 1980s Elven cavalry for Warhammer. Well, I say Warhammer but realistically they'll mainly play Dragon Rampant and gaming buddy James Morris's rather excellent upcoming heroic massed battle ruleset 'Midgard' for which I am a playtester. The unit is pictured here on its Midgard base (the shots of the unit in 2 ranks on its movement tray)

I love these models - the best Elves GW ever made. I am in the midst of repurposing my old High Elf infantry into the green/ochre/terracotta scheme you can see here in order to make myself a decent sized Midgard Elf force. Much of that is done and I just need to do the trays. Then it's looking at the lead pile to see what else I can do for the army - I have a bunch more archers, some war dancers and some Dryads that could potentially be cool.

But for now, the cavalry...

More Oldhammer Elves

With the Hereford Wargame Show fast approaching (1st Sunday in September!), I've had to pull my finger out and get cracking on the Elven forces for the Dragon Rampant participation game that Andy Mac and I will be running. This is good, as deadlines often inspire me to both get on with stuff and to do stuff well!

Anyway, here are the latest models. I'd already painted the general and two cavalry and the eagles just needed a tidy up and a re-base so essentially, the past fortnight to three weeks has seen me paint two more knights, the wizard and the attack chariot. I also have 5 more knights on the painting table awaiting final highlights, but as I won't need them for the show, I haven't rushed on with those.

The pics aren't great, as they were taken on my phone late at night. The last pic shows all 61pts worth together and was taken outside in the sunshine! I'll do some more when I get a spare few minutes using the digital camera as it takes better pics, but these will give you an idea of progress thus far...

Scarloc's Wood Elf Archers - the first 12 models

It's amazing what a Monday gaming deadline will do to speed up painting!! A 36pt game of Dragon Rampant at the club tomorrow has seen me get these archers done so I can give the Wood Elves their first outing!

These were tricky to paint, but so worth it! Some of my favourite ever Elf models! Note the use of Dark Age Pict and Saxon bucklers to make them look a little more, 'rustic' than those well-armoured and almost 'regular' looking spearmen from a few weeks back.

Anyway, I decided that I'd take a small but well tooled up force tomorrow.
Andy Mac is bringing Skaven - no doubt with loads of 'fearful' missile troops!  I'll be outnumbered...
Well, here's the list and an army group shot after the archer pictures.

Prince and bodyguard (Elite Foot Reduced model unit - Venomous - 9pts)
Guard Infantry (Elite Foot - 6pts)
Spear Guardians (Heavy Foot - 4pts)
Archer Guardians (Light Missiles - Sharpshooter; Invisibility - 9pts)
Guardian of the Glade - Treeman (Greater Warbeast - Cunning 8pts)

Season's Greetings!

Well, hello! Just a quick message to wish all of my readers, both regular and occasional, a very merry Christmas and a happy, healthy and prosperous New Year!

By way of a  small 'gift', here is an update on progress with the Oldhammer/Dragon Rampant Wood Elves I mentioned in my last post.

Here are some armoured 'elite' foot, comprised of late 1980s Citadel Melniboneans. I love these models! The left-handed spearman is a late 1980s Elf champion and the chap on the round base is a conversion of the Citadel Elric of Melnibone 'Dyvim Tvar' (I think that's how you spell it!) model. I always thought it was a horrid model, with a long, pointy fingered left hand and a horridly sculpted head with some odd dragon helm thingy... So anyway, I repositioned the arm, replaced the head (with one from a  spare 1980s Elf cavalry man I got in a big box a few years ago off EBAY) and added a cloak, with greenstuff fur to disguise where that joined the body. I'm quite pleased with him - he looks suitably 'heroic' and can either function as a single-model unit of elite foot or can accompany the 5 Melniboneans to create a unit of elite foot. When playing WFB 4th edition, he'll be a champion in a unit of armoured spearmen. The banner was previously on some other models, but I felt these guys looked more 'elite' so swapped it over! Anyway, you want pictures!! Enjoy!!
